We're optimizing our InfoCenters for mobile access, by adding QR codes to our ads, maps, and listings. QR is short for quick response and it's a type of bar code that uses a grid of squares instead of vertical lines to encode data. Instead of using a bulky scanner, QR codes can be read by smart phones.

1. How will adding QR codes help my business?

QR codes provide quick and easy access to potential customers. Travelers who see your ads at service plazas and welcome centers will now be able to directly access your website, or if desired, a specific web page within your site. By providing potential customers with a direct link, they will have direct access to you without being forced to navigate through cumbersome search engines, etc.

2. What will it cost to add QR codes to my advertising?

We are adding QR codes to our ads at no charge, and they will be treated as part of your listing information.

3. How do cell phones read QR codes?

QR codes are read by scanning them with the cameras in smart phones. The cell phone needs a QR code reader (scanning app) which can be downloaded for free. Newer phones typically have the readers pre-installed.

4. Why are QR codes more useful than standard bar codes?

Unlike bar codes, QR codes display data both horizontally and vertically in a grid, allowing for much more data to be encoded in a smaller space. They can be used for a variety of functions, such as to launch a web site, download a file, or send a text message.

5. What will happen when a traveler scans my QR code?

They will be directed to a page on our web site where they will access to both your web site and phone number. The traveler can then either call your business or link directly to your web site. A sample is shown below:
